Vision & Mission

Rationale
Ostensibly, Africa Social Security Association (ASSA) envisioned the establishment of its academic Institution at the time when many Sub-Saharan African countries have been undertaking enormous reforms of their social protection systems with the aim to extend coverage to the vast majority of their uncovered populations. The Association believes that, in order to keep abreast with system reforms and regional and global demands, national systems of social protection would require proper institutional governance to achieve the multiple-effects of both non-contributory and contributory social protection in addressing vulnerability to life-cycle risks, contingencies, livelihood shocks and poverty. These would require proper social protection knowledge and skills in designing and implementing policy and legislation instruments, including proper understanding of the role of regional, continental and global social security standards, which could be obtained through appropriate academic qualifications.
- comprehensive social protection policies and legislations;
- efficient governance of social protection systems, their financing mechanisms and reforms;
- research and knowledge management capability;
- high level policy influence;
- membership recruitment and retention;
- comprehensive social security entitlements, including social security rights for migrant workers and their families;
- quality of service delivery;
- effective coordination and portability of benefits in Africa;
- strategic partnerships and collaborations with peer institutions in the globe;
- sustainable resource base;
- increased visibility and presence in Africa and in the Globe.
